The Need for Male Adolescent Counseling

The Need for Male Adolescent Counseling

Are you considering counseling for your teenage (or almost teenage) son? Being a teenager is difficult. Sometimes the pressures lead to dangerous activities such as substance abuse. Other times teens retreat to their rooms to play video games almost non-stop or live on social media. Is your teenage boy behind in school? Are the pressures of competitive sports out of control? Your son may be anxious at this time or depressed. Adolescence can be a challenging time for both teens and their parents.

Teenagers desperately want to fit in and can sometimes fall in with bad influences in an attempt to find friends. The first dating experiences can be stressful, especially when a breakup is involved. Teenagers may be engaging in unhealthy sexual activity without their parents being aware.

Adolescent counseling can give your son the chance to discuss things they would never want to discuss with friends and especially parents. Teenage boys, in particular, may prefer a male counselor who can relate to their experiences and provide a place for them to examine their choices. Often times teenagers know what is right but need a safe place to talk it out. Adolescents can also be full of wonderful experiences and a movement toward independence. Counseling can provide a unique opportunity for males to discuss their concerns, feelings, problems, and joys.
